The Opportunity | Te kōwhiringa
The Downer Transport & Infrastructure business is highly respected and has a great track record for delivering top standards of work across the country, our Dunedin crew is no exception to this!
As an experienced Excavator Operator, you’ll primarily be operating and driving machinery including diggers, loaders, and other plant to perform trench excavation, bulk earthworks, concreting, curb line dig outs and general backfilling.
Some team leadership experience will be beneficial in this role given you will lead the team on bulk earthworks sites and will work as 2IC to the foreperson on construction sites. You will also need to help the team with kerb laying, concreting, pipe laying and general support when excavation work is on pause.
This is primarily a Monday – Friday full-time, permanent position based out of our Dunedin depot. Overtime is available on occasional weekends.
Important Skills | Nga pūkenga matua
You will have plenty of experience operating large Excavators (5T - 30T) within the civil construction industry – particularly in drainage and roading projects. You will have an organised and systematic approach to the work environment and take pride in your work . You will also:

Hold Class 4 drivers’ licence with W, T, R endorsements

Hold strong planning skills and the ability to deal with unexpected events and problem-solve

Be physically fit and able to carry out manual tasks

Be able to demonstrate Leadership qualities that empower others
