About Your Role:

This role will offer you a broad scope of responsibilities and an opportunity to work alongside some of the most exceptional legal minds within our successful and thriving, diverse business. Reporting to the Chief Legal Counsel – Transactions, the Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for providing transactional legal support services to the Downer Australia Operations, including:

• Advise and support to Downer executives, including briefing the Chief Legal Counsels and Group General Counsel and Company Secretary;
• Strategic advice, legal services, guidance and support to bid teams, including interfacing and negotiating with Downer customers;
• Legal support to project governance initiatives and, where required, report to project governance bodies/forums;
• Identifying and implementing lessons learnt, training on bid and tender processes and continuous improvement across the Downer Australia Operations businesses, in accordance with Downer Group policies, procedures and directives.

Skills & Experience:

• Experience as a legal practitioner (minimum PQE 8+), both private practice and large in-house ASX listed organization experience desirable, but not essential;
• Demonstrated ability to provide clear and succinct advice which synthesises legal and commercial issues in a form suitable for an executive audience and capable of forming a basis for executive commercial decision-making;
• Experience in advising on complex transactions and project delivery issues in the sectors in which Downer operates; In-depth understanding of construction law and contracts;
• The ability to proactively build relationships with key stakeholders/ clients, peers and colleagues including mentoring and training junior colleagues.
