Downer Rail & Transit Systems business has a wide portfolio of projects currently in delivery nationally. RTS leverages the in-house capabilities within Downer to offer integrated solutions covering rollingstock, infrastructure, rail systems, operations and maintenance, as well as system integration.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Rail Safety Advisor to join our Zero Harm team. You will be a key facilitator that supports the systems in place to demonstrate compliance with all Zero Harm (rail safety/WHS) legislation and project obligations for the Rail and Transit Systems (RTS) Business Unit.

This position will conduct trend analysis, develop and implement tactical plans taking into account project and corporate requirements for managing and continually improving the company’s processes to deliver best practice rail safety assurance artefacts. The role acts as a rail safety SME/representative in internal and external forums supporting the identification and quantification of RTS rail safety risks/hazards and support the new and ongoing SFAIRP justification of rail safety risk exposure and acceptance.

This role can be based at either our East Coast offices - North Ryde, Auburn, Cardiff, Brisbane, Packenham or Melbourne.

Responsibilities:

• Achieve the RTS safety/workplace safety objectives and protecting the health, safety and welfare of all workers under its effective control.
• When directed, represent RTS’s interests with eternal stakeholders and Statutory Authorities including the ONRSR, RISSB, OTSI etc.
• Conducting regular internal audits of systems and activities, follows up with the relevant personnel
• Verifying implementation of agreed preventative and corrective actions to support demonstration of our regulatory, contractual and company obligations.
• Participate in engineering and facility change board processes as an independent assurance SME
• Supporting rail safety critical investigations as a SME or lead investigator
• Providing practical advice on time critical decisions effecting Downer Rail’s accreditation and certifications
• Be accessible and collaborative with Zero Harm and function/project personnel to achieve business goals
