Downer Group is seeking a motivated and dynamic Works Controller to join our high-performing Road Services team. This isn’t your average desk job — you’ll be out on the road, working hands-on with delivery teams and subcontractors, helping shape the future of transport infrastructure across our stunning state.

About the Role

The role is dynamic, with a diverse range of responsibilities that will have you connecting with crews and subcontractors, solving problems, and driving improvement continuously as we deliver best for network, best for client, and best for road users. We want to drive change that uplifts network quality, team moral, and success across all Road Services business units within Downer.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and optimise preventative maintenance activities in real time
  • Monitor work crews across the network and support efficient delivery
  • Adapt to change fast — reroute crews, manage scope changes, and drive daily improvement
  • Partner with key stakeholders to ensure quality, safety, and best-for-network outcomes
  • Provide feedback and data insights to enhance future planning cycles
  • Promote and live Downer’s Zero Harm safety culture

What you’ll bring

Ideally you will bring with you a strong background in Planning, Planning qualifications, or transferrable industry experience along with;

  • Experience in maintenance planning/scheduling, preferably in road maintenance
  • Exposure to enterprise Asset and Works management systems / software and their best practices
  • Capability to develop service contracts and operational plans
  • Solid project planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Strong safety focus with demonstrated evidence of actively promoting and sustaining a Zero harm environment
