We are looking for a Senior Consultant or Manager to join EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team to support our energy advisory engagements. This role is available in Auckland or Wellington and is offered on a flexible full-time basis.
EY’s Infrastructure Advisory team is New Zealand’s leading advisor in the energy sector to Government and industry on projects that contribute to meeting New Zealand’s net zero 2050 ambitions. Join this team and you will have the opportunity to advise clients across all parts of the energy sector including electricity, bioenergy, hydrogen, fossil fuel transition as well as energy networks and infrastructure, representing EY in planning and delivering major investments in our country’s future.
Across the energy value chain we work with our clients throughout the investment lifecycle to strategize, plan and deliver the investment needed to transform our energy system. This includes policy development and strategy, economic analysis, financial and commercial analysis, procurement, funding and financing, and advising on strategy and optimisation post-delivery.
Core Responsibilities:
- Work in a high-performing team to help Government and industry clients navigate energy sector challenges across all stages of the investment lifecycle, from strategy and business case development, through to delivery planning
- Provide trusted commercial, financial, and strategic advice to clients in consultation with senior staff and partners
- Develop clear, well written and easy to understand reports and presentations
- Assist in identifying opportunities to grow our business and bring our clients the best that EY has to offer, including building relationships in the market and supporting the development of proposals and pitches
- Manage, mentor, and provide counselling to our junior team members
Ō Pūmanawa I What we’re looking for
Here’s our ‘wish list’ but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.
- Experience in a commercial/strategy/regulatory role in the energy sector, ideally within a gentailer, lines company, energy provider, energy infrastructure provider, consultancy, investment bank or institutional bank, at any level of Government or Big 4
- Understanding of key regulatory, commercial and financial issues in the energy sector, including the decarbonisation context, emerging technologies (e.g. DER, future fuels), and how energy market are structured
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, high presentation standards, ability to think strategically when problem solving and a track record of undertaking insightful, data-driven quantitative analysis
- Ability to lead and manage multiple projects/people concurrently, and effectively prioritise competing demands
- Excellent interpersonal and client management skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- A proactive, supportive, and respectful approach to the team, with the ability to function under appropriate pressures but also ask for help when required
- A commitment to a strong positive team culture and enthusiasm for working in a flexible and diverse team environment
Ideally, you’ll also have
- An underlying curiosity about energy sector issues and a drive to solve problems collaboratively with our clients
- A good understanding of New Zealand energy regulation, policy knowledge and sector stakeholders
- Experience in price-quality path regulation of monopoly assets desirable but other candidates considered
- An understanding of techno-economic assessment methodologies for energy projects
- Previous consulting experience
- A willingness to travel domestically
