About the role
Join Essential Energy as a Senior Engineer – Connections Planning and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our network. You’ll lead the technical assessment of embedded generation and large customer connections to our sub transmission network, ensuring compliance with Essential Energy’s policies and the National Electricity Rules. This role involves conducting engineering studies, modelling, and data analysis to evaluate the impact of complex connections and developing solutions to maintain system stability and network capability.
You’ll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to define performance standards and negotiate connection requirements. Your work will directly influence the reliability and efficiency of our energy infrastructure.

About your skills
- Professional experience in a similar role within electricity distribution, transmission or power systems environments
- Strong technical expertise in power system modelling and analysis, including tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD/EMTDC and SINCAL
- Ability to balance technical outcomes with commercial considerations
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability, with the ability to manage complex engineering challenges
- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with attention to detail
- Effective communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage complex workloads and make sound decisions under pressure
- Experience in scripting languages (Python, VBA) is highly regarded
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent, meeting the requirements for Professional Engineer membership with Engineers Australia
Desired experience
- Specialisation in power system engineering and analysis (Master’s Degree favoured)
- Advanced knowledge of power system modelling tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E)
- Demonstrated experience in transmission or distribution network planning
- In-depth understanding of the National Electricity Rules and AEMO guidelines
- Proven ability to deliver viable solutions to power system challenges through technical studies and modelling
