About the role

As a Zone Substation Transformer Specialist Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in the construction, installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of Zone Substations and associated equipment.

You will be specialising in maintaining Power Transformers, including tasks such a tap changer maintenance and diagnostic testing. The diagnostic testing performed on power transformers is intricate, requiring a high level of expertise perform and interpret the results accurately.

This position involves interrogating and analysing systems, operating remote equipment, performing switching operations, and preparing detailed reports on network assets. You will also contribute to business strategies, planning, budgeting, and policy development while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards

This role will be based in Dubbo, NSW.

About You

You are a proactive and safety-focused professional with a strong technical background in electrical systems. You thrive in dynamic environments, demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills, and are committed to delivering high-quality outcomes. Your ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with stakeholders sets you apart.

About your skills

You bring practical experience in substation operations and maintenance, along with strong technical knowledge of protection and control systems. You are confident in using computerised systems for remote operations and possess sound interpersonal skills. Your commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and quality processes is evident in your work.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Qualified Supervisors Certificate
  • General Construction Induction Training (White Card)
  • Advanced Diploma in ESI Power System with preferred electives in Testing Systems or equivalent experience
  • Ability to maintain all regulatory, industry, and business-required licences and authorisations

Desired experience

  • Previous experience in testing and fault finding on power transformers
  • Experience in the construction and maintenance of power transformers
  • Practical application of electrical qualifications in a similar role
  • Experience in promoting and complying with safety, environmental, and quality standards
  • Familiarity with technical aspects of Senior Substation Technical Officer roles
  • Additional certifications such as First Aid, Elevated Work Platform, C2 or C6 crane, Dogman, Forklift, and awareness in chemical handling, manual handling, and environmental processes
