About the role
As a Zone Substation Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in constructing, maintaining, and commissioning zone substations and associated distribution equipment. Your responsibilities will include inspecting and testing network assets, performing high and low voltage switching operations, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.


You will collaborate closely with operational teams and stakeholders to ensure reliable energy delivery and contribute to the ongoing development of innovative energy solutions. Your work will directly support Essential Energy’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and sustainable energy to our communities.


This role will be based in Dubbo or Narrabri.


About You
You are a safety-focused professional who thrives in a team environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes. Adaptable and proactive, you demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement. Your ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships ensures you work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.

About Your Skills

  • You bring strong technical expertise in electrical systems and substation operations.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with teams and customers.
  • You are confident using computer systems and technology to support operational tasks.
  • You demonstrate a commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in ESI - Power Systems Substations or equivalent experience and/or relevant qualification
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Qualified Supervisors Certificate
  • WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
  • Ability to maintain all required regulatory and business licences, authorisations, and certificates for the role

Desired Experience

  • First Aid certification
  • Elevated Work Platform operation
  • C2 or C6 licence, Dogman, and Forklift licences
  • Knowledge of chemical handling and storage
  • Manual handling and environmental awareness
  • Switching and substation entry authorisation knowledge
  • Experience in technical and practical aspects of electrical technician roles
  • Strong understanding of safety, environmental, and quality compliance requirements
