This significant career opportunity is for an experienced Geotechnical engineer and people leader to take a leadership role supporting our Group Geotechnical function to develop and deliver our strategic and tactical objectives and identify and drive operational excellence. This will be underpinned by you providing disciplined technical support with sound economic analysis across the group. You will be ‘front and centre’ in shaping the future direction of Geotechnical community within our company.
About the role
This role is responsible for identifying opportunities for step change and improvement to drive value accretion across the business, supporting the development of new projects and providing guidance on required levels of test work as well as developing overarching governance around geotechnical controls, including ground management plans and critical controls.
The Principal Geotechnical Engineer provides technical leadership for the development of new projects in the Group including recommendations on required levels of geotechnical test work, methodologies, budgets, and leading internal technical reviews. with a key part of this role includes mentoring, coaching, and leading transformation, and innovation with regards to the development of geotechnical teams across the group.
Key result areas for a role of this nature include:
- Influencing and ensuring consistent communication, assurance, and governance with respect to geotechnical processes across our business
- Fostering collaborative, productive relationships across the organisation and especially your peers and colleagues in the Geotechnical team alongside external specialist providers and contractors
- Driving a focus on transformation and continuous improvement in geotechnical practices including use of innovative technology and world class standards.
- Provide technical support to growth projects, including due diligence, opportunity & risk assessment, and potential integration relating to M&A activities.
About you
To succeed in this position, you will have proven experience in hard rock mining, preferably within the gold sector. It is also important that you have or can demonstrate:
- Demonstrable capability in influencing and developing geotechnical teams for professional and technical growth
- Proven experience at a senior level with organisational geotechnical accountability
- Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical engineering or equivalent, ideally with relevant post graduate qualifications and member of Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy or similar professional affiliation

This is a significant opportunity to further develop your professional development and attracts a senior remuneration package including short and long-term incentive (related to personal and share price performance).
This role is ideally based on the East Coast however other locations may be considered. The successful candidate must be prepared to travel commensurate with standard industry requirements of approximately 50% of time engaging with teams at our sites and Group Head Office.
