Our Ernest Henry Mine (EHO) is a copper and gold mining and processing operation located 38 kilometres northeast of Cloncurry in Northwest Queensland.
About the role
Reporting to the Development Superintendent (Underground) the purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the underground teams to ensure business objectives are met in line with Ernest Henry Operation’s values and code of conduct.
This position is residentially based in Cloncurry, DIDO from Mount Isa or FIFO from Townsville and Cairns. The roster for this role comprises of eight (8) days on, six (6) days off, 12-hour day shifts.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring worker safety and competency by participating in risk assessments.
- Providing coaching and mentoring to front line supervisors and workers in various disciplines
- Upholding mining and regulatory standards to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Ensuring accountability for substandard conditions or tasks
- Holding personnel accountable and have crucial conversations when necessary
- Ensuring continuity between frontline operations and the weekly mine plans / schedules
- Communicating safety and operational performance against the weekly mine plans to relevant stakeholders, the risks and associated mitigating actions and any opportunities also.

About you
The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills and be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. You must be able to work well in a team environment and have experience in influencing decision makers in a mining environment. Knowledge of relevant legislation, safety management systems, mine planning and operational processes is highly regarded.
We are looking for people who have the following skills and experience:
- Proficiency in managing all teams of underground operational employees
- Demonstrated front-line leadership experience with S1, S2, and S3 competencies
- Experience in operational leadership roles in underground mining, including Mine Captain, Mine Foreman, and supervisory positions
- Ability to manage contractors and oversee explosive management, ground support, and strata control
- Expertise in identifying hazards and managing related human resources procedures
- Strong understanding of hazard identification management and processes
