About the role

Reporting to Senior Geotechnical Engineer the purpose of this role is to provide geotechnical guidance to the mine and fully consider the Health and Safety implications of production-based decisions with respect to rock mass behaviour and geotechnical considerations for the open pit and tailings facility.

Key result areas in this role include:

  • Maintaining geotechnical and structural models and regularly updating following mapping, logging, and recording of as-mined exposure and drill core
  • Daily pit geotechnical inspections.
  • Reviewing, inspecting, and conducting Wall Signoffs for pit walls to ensure the have been mined to an acceptable standard.
  • Inspecting ground support and drain holes to ensure the meet the design requirement
  • Updating monthly geotechnical reports and informing the Senior Geotechnical Engineer of any anomalies and potential issues
  • Conducting and Reporting monthly Waste Dump and Dam inspections
  • Conduct face mapping of all primary rock and update Geotechnical Hazard Database.
  • Planning, supervision, and completion of geotechnical investigation programmes for the pit and tailings dams.
  • Identifying and reporting of Geotechnical hazards using Geotechnical Analysis Software.
  • Reviewing and communicate Geotechnical monitoring data such as Radar and Prisms monitoring.

About you

You must highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Engineer, with expertise in technical report writing, problem solving, and presenting and communicating information. You must have a strong work ethic and consistently maintain high work standards. To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have/can demonstrate:

  • Degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a similar relevant qualification
  • Previous open pit mining geotechnical experience
  • Thorough understanding of Australian legislation and mining regulations, particularly the NSW Mines Act and Regulations, and knowledge of operating conditions.
  • Proficiency in specialized geotechnical and mining software and planning systems.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, able to initiate and effect change, and achieve desired results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report preparation and document drafting.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with peers and colleagues, and act with integrity
  • Self-directed, capable of meeting tight deadlines, and adaptable to shifting priorities
