About the role
Our Cowal Gold Operation is in the process of developing our new underground mine with first stopes extracted in March 2023!
We have a current opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer – Underground in our high-performing Integrated Planning team. Reporting to Geotechnical Superintendent, the purpose of this position is to lead the safe expansion of our underground through their leadership and technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
The role has a breadth of responsibility in leading their team to provide geotechnically sound solutions for stope sequencing, stope design, underground infrastructure design, portal design and underground development design. The successful candidate will be empowered to establish best practice geotechnical systems to ensure the safe and optimal extraction of a new and growing orebody.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Geotechnical Engineer, skilled in working with people, relating, and networking along with having an ability to persuade and influence whilst adhering to our principles and values. Ideally you will have experience working in large underground environments with a track record in delivering results and meeting customer expectations.
Within the role, you will be integral to the success of the Underground Mine and will be excited to build effective management systems to ensure we achieve our goals. It is expected you will have extensive relevant industry experience supported with an appropriate Tertiary qualification.
To succeed in the role, you will have:
- Good working knowledge all legislative and regulatory requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with a broad range of teams
- Excellent relationship building skills and can influence people of all backgrounds
- Adaptable with flexibility to operate in a dynamic work environment
- Risk management experience is essential
- Familiarity with mine design software, especially Deswik CAD
- Experience supervising and developing a team
