Our Cowal Gold Operation (CGO) is a cornerstone asset located near West Wyalong in central NSW with a leadership team that continually focus on embedding a values driven culture aligned with our company vision to create a premier, global gold company.
The development of the Cowal Underground Mine is part of the site goal to produce 350,000 ounces of low-cost gold a year and extend its mine life out beyond 17 years, providing significant economic benefits within the region. The planned capital investment is A$380 million. A concurrent Feasibility Study is also underway, looking to continue open pit mining for a further 10 years, creating a strong Life of Mine inclusive of both open pit and underground mining.
About the role
Reporting to our General Manager CGO, the Commercial Manager is responsible for developing and executing the life of mine and annual budgets, ensuring both short- and long-term goals are accounted for and able to be executed. The Commercial Manager is instrumental acting as a key member of Leadership Team and helping develop CGO overall operational growth and strategic outlook.
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced Commercial leader with a strong background in Financial Accounting, an understanding of mining operations and engaging leadership style. As part of your role, it is expected you have experience developing operating efficiency, understanding commercial drivers and pressures, design plans for optimisation and success including commercial contingencies to assist in achieving safe, profitable production.
You will be responsible for the effective leadership and compliant commercial management of your team (Accounting, Contracts, Supply, Warehousing, and IT) to support and enhance our operational performance in line with companywide goals and values ensuring we are implementing and suitable systems and processes to achieve our Commercial obligations, completions statutory requirements and reporting.
Supporting the Site Leadership Team, your team will manage and provide timely reporting on multiple financial matters including budgeting (capital and operational), commercial risk, procurement, and supply contract negotiation, partnering closely with the General Manager and operational leads on cost and performance optimisation.
Evolution Mining supports flexible working with the potential for this role to be based partially from home, with an appropriate amount of time to be spent in West Wyalong.
About you
You will be degree qualified with associated professional qualification (CPA/CA) with senior leadership experience, bringing a deep understanding of the mining industry (or heavy industry), along with an established reputation for identifying key business drivers and designing and implementing operations optimisation plans.
Key to competently delivering in the role will be your proven track record of success as an experienced Commercial Manager, demonstrably motivating teams and improving financial performance by understanding relevant drivers of the business. Working as a member of the site leadership team, you must be proactive in approach, addressing both operational and strategic matters and take the initiative to address problems whilst using data to drive decisions.
