Gold Fields is a globally diversified gold producer with nine operating mines in Australia, Peru, South Africa and West Africa (including the Asanko JV), as well as one project in Chile.
Gold Fields' mining assets in the Australia region (GFA) include a 100% interest in the St Ives, Agnew and Granny Smith mines and a 50:50 interest in the Gruyere JV project with Gold Road Resources.
St Ives Gold Mine is located 20km south-east of Kambalda and approximately 80 km south of Kalgoorlie. It is comprised of both open pit and underground operations and produces over 350,000 ounces of gold per annum.
Role Details:
Reporting to the Senior: Geology Assistant, predominately your role will be assisting the geological team to facilitate optimum production in the core yard operations for both surface and underground drilling programs. Additionally, there are some field based tasks during drill program downtime.

This role is offered as residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie on an 8 days on 6 days off roster.

A day in the life:
- Shift starts at 6am
- Complete breathalyzer
- Attend pre-start meeting – talk about safety, general overview of works happening
- Senior Geology Assistant gives out jobs for the day which could include:
- Working in the core shed processing diamond drill core
- Orientation
- Meter Marking
- RQD
- Core Photography
- Cutting/sampling
- Following quality control protocols
- Data entry using computer into Acquire and other software
- Prepare samples to be dispatched to the assay laboratory
- Working in a team of 7
- Rehabilitation of drill sites (pending drill programs)
- Meal and rest breaks throughout the day
- Shift ends at 5pm
Training and development for the role is offered on site and the role is mostly manual labour type work working in the core shed.
About you:
- You will hold a valid manual driver’s licence
- Ideally you will hold a forklift ticket or be willing to obtain
- Possess a Senior First Aid Certificate is desirable
- Like to work competently in an outdoor role in remote environments during drill program downtime
