Gold Fields' mining assets in the Australia region (GFA) include a 100% interest in the St Ives, Agnew and Granny Smith mines and a 50:50 interest in the Gruyere JV project with Gold Road Resources.
Role Details:
Reporting to the Regional Responsible Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE), you will work within a team overseeing the integrity, safety, and governance of the tailings storage facility (TSF) at- the 4 mine sites for Gold Fields based in Western Australia. In addition, you will work on various continuous improvement projects and opportunities within the operations to improve dam integrity, work practices and procedures. Therefore, you must develop and maintain effective working relationships with the TSF operations, project teams, and other departments. You will also be responsible for the ongoing management, compliance, and governance of the tailings facility in line with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).

About the role:

Understand and maintain a record of costs associated with tailings management, including maintenance, operation, construction, professional services, and studies;

Regularly update and maintain the risk registers, operation, maintenance & surveillance (OMS) manuals, including emergency preparedness and response plans, site tailings management system;

Compile and prepare quarterly TSF management reports for the sites, as well as develop and maintain the Tailings Management Plan (TMP) for the operations;

Review tailings deposition and tailings capacity quarterly and develop and maintain a short-term (quarterly) deposition plan for implementation on site;

Overseeing construction projects related to the TSFs;

With support from the Regional RTFE, establish and maintain a formal relationship with the Engineers of Record (EoRs);

Evaluating geological, hydrotechnical and geotechnical information.
Essential requirements:

A University Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a related field

Post Graduate qualification in Tailings or Soils Engineering is desirable

Demonstrated experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably with some exposure to operating mines

Experience coordinating TSF site investigations, construction and commissioning

Practical knowledge of IT engineering systems that analyse slope stability, seepage, hydraulic modelling, and deposition modelling (e.g., GeoStudio, Rocscience, Muk3D, Rift)

A valid Drivers Licence

Excellent communication skills and language fluency in English.
