Gold Fields is a globally diversified gold producer with nine operating mines in Australia, Peru, South Africa and West Africa (including the Asanko JV), as well as one project in Chile.

Gold Fields' mining assets in the Australia region (GFA) include a 100% interest in the St Ives, Agnew and Granny Smith mines and a 50:50 interest in the Gruyere JV project with Gold Road Resources.

Role Details:

Reporting to the Lead : Environment, you will be responsible for the management of environmental activities in accordance with Gold Fields EHS standards whilst maintaining strict compliance with relevant legislative and statutory requirements to ensure sustainable mining operations.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth and is available on a 12-month fixed term contract for Maternity Leave Coverage.

About the role:

  • Update and review the site Mine Closure plan including management of progressive rehabilitation plans and processes

  • Contribute to sustainable mining by advising on and facilitating approvals for operations, including but not limited to considerations of tenure, stakeholder consultation and legal permissions under the relevant Environment, Mining and Heritage Acts

  • Assist in maintenance of site Environmental Aspects and Obligations Registers, spatial data, and environmental databases

  • Assist in the continuous improvement and maintenance of the site’s ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System

  • Engender confidence and compliance with environmental policies by demonstrating commitment to environmental management, integrating good environmental management into everyday practices, influencing all site personnel and management to do the same

  • Undertake stakeholder engagement including meetings with regulators and local communities

  • Partner with key stakeholders in the provision of coordination, support, direction and expertise in proactive environmental management (particularly land access, native title and closure management) ensuring effective controls are in place and managed, compliant with legislative, heritage and corporate obligations

  • Develop and review the application of new procedures, processes, methodologies and technologies where appropriate

  • Coordinate site monitoring programs, data collection and analysis, and reporting to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or similar

  • Strong understanding of Western Australia legislation (DMIRS, DWER & DPLH)

  • Previous experience in managing land access, approvals and closure projects and associated stakeholder engagement

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and ArcGIS applications

  • Solid experience in an environmental function within the mining sector

  • Demonstrated leadership and performance development experience in a multi-disciplinary environment
