Granny Smith Mine (GSM) is an underground gold mining operation located 740km northeast of Perth, Western Australia.
Our people fly to the site on a chartered jet departing Perth Airport’s Terminal 2 four days a week to Laverton with a travel time of around 85 minutes, or via road for employees residing in host community towns including Laverton and Kalgoorlie.

Role Details
Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking a Unit Manager: Technical Services to lead their Mine Technical Services Team at Granny Smith Gold Mine.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the mine operating plan and securing the future of mining operations through the development and provision of technical and planning standards, procedures, and direction to achieve an optimal mine production profile by combining planning and production processes.
This role is offered on a 8 days on 6 days off, 4 days on 3 days off roster, and is Fly in Fly out from Perth.

About the role:
- Provide input into Strategic planning, Life of Mine, Resource & Reserve, and Budget planning cycles to support the achievement of strategic objectives and ensure that mining related issues are considered and communicated to appropriate parties.
- Ensure the Technical Services department provides support to mining operations in areas of delivering the Business plan, Short, Medium- & Long-Term planning, Geotechnical, Survey, and Infrastructure projects as required.
- Ensure mine modernisation projects and site projects are implemented with clear processes and outcomes
- Provide expert advice and guidance to support long-term decision making by the organisation within its own field(s) of expertise by participating in project studies as required. Ensure long- and short-term decisions are aligned with the site business & strategic plan.
- Manage the development and maintenance of mining systems, including documenting practices and procedures, and providing feedback on the effectiveness of these systems to the Mining Manager.
- Ensure professional application of all technical disciplines to deliver optimized mine designs and schedules, including geotechnical, ventilation, service reticulation, survey, paste, and waste backfill aspects.
- Provide leadership in the Life of Mine, Resource & Reserve, and Budget planning cycles
About you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
- Displayed experience in a similar operational management position
- Substantial mining experience, preferably gold
- Highly developed knowledge of Underground Mining Standards
- Exposure to different mining methods and associated economics
- Business/Management qualification i.e., Mineral Economics would be an advantage
- Successful track record in a similar role within large scale underground mining
