The mine is located on the Norseman-Wiluna Greenstone Belt, which forms part of the Yilgarn Craton in Western Australia. It is a highly mineralised granite-greenstone terrain with world-class deposits of gold and nickel. St Ives has produced more than 10.5 million ounces of gold, with the first major gold mining expedition commencing in the mid-1980s.

St Ives Gold Mine operates mainly on a residential basis, with employees either living in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie as well as having a fly-in and fly-out option for those not living locally.

With a 10-year life of mine, stability is also on offer.

Role Details:

Reporting to the Superintendent: Non-Process Infrastructure, you will be responsible for the coordination of electrical engineering activities associated with the site power system transmission and distribution infrastructure, SCADA control systems, power, and water infrastructure, and the upcoming 80MW renewables solar and wind generation assets.

This role is offered as residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie on a 5-day on 2 days off, 4 days on 3 days off roster, or FIFO on a 2 x 4 days on 3 days off, 8 days 6 days off roster. Bus transportation is offered to and from the site for residential candidates.

About the role:

  • Provide power systems engineering support to the NPI high voltage team maintaining and operating the extensive power distribution network comprising 132kV, 66kV, and 11kV transmission and distribution assets
  • Maintain the DIgSILENT PowerFactory high voltage network power system model, produce reports such as load flows, fault levels, time current and protection grading, protection settings, arc flash assessments for both the surface and underground mine infrastructure
  • Manage the numerical protection relay testing program using Omicron 356 test equipment for the various protection relays and equipment, maintaining the protection settings database, and invoking setting changes.
  • Asset reliability and health for the various transformers, power lines, outdoor switch gear, indoor switchboards, and kiosk-type underground mining substations.
  • Prepare and manage the DMIRS WHS High Voltage Submissions and associated documentation for the surface and underground operations, updating the site SLD’s, and maintaining the power system drawings.
  • Review and assemble engineering standards, work instructions, and operating procedures.
  • Contribute to the long-term sustainability through the identification, coordination, and management of energy-related projects including the review and implementation of improved energy efficiency across the existing infrastructure.
  • Involvement in downtime investigations and root cause analysis along with critical spares analysis/optimisation.
  • Supervising internal & external personnel, contractors, and Graduate Engineers.

About you:

  • Possess Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems)
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in a similar role with knowledge of HV power systems and infrastructure services
  • Chartered Professional Engineering credentials are highly desirable
  • Sound knowledge of legislative and statutory requirements, and relevant engineering standards
  • Experience developing maintenance strategies for HV and LV assets
  • Valid Drivers License
