THE ROLE

Exciting things are happening at IGO, including the development of the Odysseus Underground Nickel Mine at our Cosmos Project based near Leinster in Western Australia. As a result, we are looking for a Superintendent Work Health and Safety to join the team at an exciting time of growth at IGO.

Once in production, Odysseus will deliver high quality nickel concentrates into the global nickel market which is growing rapidly driven by demand for nickel rich lithium-ion batteries.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, this role will be responsible for the implementation of WHS systems of work including providing assurance that they are being effectively implemented.

As a member of the site leadership team, this role will manage the execution of WHS support services, (Health, Medical, Safety and Emergency Response), to meet the requirements of the operation.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Support organisational change and growth to achieve a work environment where work can be safely and efficiently executed;
  • Support the Cosmos leadership team in implementation of strategies to effectively manage health and safety risks including the prevention of workplace fatalities;
  • Execute the internal WHS and emergency assurance programs and work with stakeholders to ensure that identified corrective actions are completed;
  • Engage with leadership teams to develop safety capability in our line leaders supported by coaching from the WHS function;
  • Support the continued professional development of the WHS team;
  • Lead improvement in service delivery, WHS, emergency and related systems and expenditure;
  • Identify, plan, develop and manage budgets for activities and capital expenditure in area of responsibility to approved schedule and budget; and
  • Reforecast projects, capital and operating costs on a quarterly basis.

YOUR EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role, you will be an excellent communicator with strong relationship building and leadership skills. You will also have the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification;
  • Strong technical knowledge and capabilities in contemporary workplace health and safety management, associated management of wellbeing, WHS risk and interpreting legislative requirements;
  • Exposure to managing site emergency and medical response processes, personnel and facilities;
  • Exposure to heavy industry including mining or mineral processing;
  • Prior experience working in supervisory role leading a team of professionals;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, strong problem solving and lateral thinking.
  • Ability to impart knowledge, coach and mentor others;
  • Experience in heavy industry, preferably mining;
  • Demonstrated analytical ability and report writing skills.
