The Engineer is a role that is responsible for delivering against the various aspects of product engineering from inception to deployment and production support. By writing clean code, (which includes testing, observability, security and pipelines), the role will, in conjunction with one or more teams, engineer quality functionality in Iress software. The Engineer role will have a focus on one or more technical specialisations, such as “Software”, “Data”, “Security”, “Support & Reliability” and will have or gain some knowledge in one or more business domains (e.g. Trading, Lending, Advice).
The software engineer role will combine technical engineering capabilities with leadership and behavioural attributes that focus on business outcomes delivered in a consistent way of working a way that drives the success of Iress and its clients.
Some of the amazing things you’ll be involved in:
Produces high-quality, robust and resilient software, whether through the development of new code or the modification and improvement of existing code. Ensures quality is "built-in" and ensures quality is inspected appropriately using automation testing techniques.
Participates and provides quality input into any requirements or analysis of solutions, features or non-functional requirements.
Provides support for software or solutions. Takes initiative in troubleshooting even if they are not the 'primary' engineer and resolves issues quickly and effectively.
Contributes positively to the team, provides relevant and appropriate inputs to enable effective team outcomes to be delivered.
Ensures any key person risk is minimised by working with others, appropriately documenting and automating work.
Fosters and develops strong working relationships with the wider technology group. Will mentor/coach more junior engineers, and take feedback or seek guidance from more senior engineers.
Effectively manages work, whether assigned or taken. Ensures dependencies, issues or risks on other teams are known and owns remediation of such.
What you will bring:
Strong proficiency in frontend engineering using modern frameworks (React with Typescript, or Vue) combined with a solid grasp of API design (REST, or GraphQL).
Familiarity with setting up front-end authentication using frameworks like Okta, React, or Microsoft Entra ID is preferred, along with foundational knowledge of OIDC and OAuth 2.0 protocols would be beneficial.
Preferably, some 'DevOps' experience building and deploying infrastructure with cloud deployment technologies. Has experience applying effective security measures.
Preferably, some experience in 'backend' engineering using multiple languages, such as Python, Java (or JVM-based) is advantageous but not essential.
Experience in applying containerisation to software, using tools such as Docker, Windows Containers, ECS or Kubernetes would be advantageous but is not essential.
Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks. Has experience in refactoring software and applying automated testing in order to uplift software quality.
