At Iress, we make things happen

We believe technology should help people perform better every day. Since our beginning in 1993, people across financial services have trusted us to take their performance to the next level. More than 10,000 businesses and 500,000 people use our software, from the world’s most iconic financial services brands to advice firms of all sizes, banks, insurers, investment managers, traders and brokers. Iress is one of Australia’s largest technology companies and employs more than 1,100 people across Australia, The United Kingdom, Africa, Canada, New Zealand and Asia.

Build your career at Iress!

As a Senior Engineer within the Client Portal team, you will be at the forefront of modernising our direct-to-consumer digital experience. Your primary responsibility will be to design and deliver high-quality, mobile-responsive solutions that empower financial advice clients to track their wealth and collaborate with their advisers.

This role benefits from a blend of technical excellence and product thinking. You will be key to driving the design and implementation of complex features, ranging from dynamic fact-finds and secure identity management to real-time portfolio visualisation, while driving best practices in full-stack engineering, security, and automated deployment. By mentoring the team and challenging the status quo, you will ensure the delivery of a seamless, secure, and engaging user experience that drives tangible business value.

Some of the amazing things you’ll be involved in:

  • Produces high-quality, robust and resilient software, ensuring quality is inspected appropriately using automation testing techniques. Leads the design of features and non-functional outcomes, ensuring security is appropriate and remediating efficiently if inadequacies arise.

  • Leads the removal of manual work by automating processes and leveraging strategic tooling. Ensures key person risk is minimised by documenting work and sharing knowledge, while taking initiative in troubleshooting and resolving issues quickly.

  • Actively contribute to team planning and requirements analysis. Mentor less-experienced engineers, participate in peer code reviews, and collaborate to uplift code quality. Foster strong working relationships with the wider technology group to gain leverage and scale. Take advantage of leadership training and collaboration opportunities.

EmployeeFull time
  • Effectively manages assigned work and takes ownership of outcomes. Ensures dependencies, issues, or risks impacting other teams are identified and remediated, contributing to a consistent and reliable delivery cadence.

  • What you will bring:

    • Consumer-First Product Engineering: Experience developing direct-to-consumer products with a deep understanding of user experience (UX) and UI design. You are comfortable collaborating with Product Management to design solutions that drive commercial outcomes and are capable of navigating ambiguity to deliver quality results.

    • Full-Stack Technical Expertise: Strong proficiency in frontend engineering using modern frameworks (React with Typescript, or Vue) combined with a solid grasp of API design (REST, or GraphQL). Experience with cloud technologies, specifically in storage, caching, serverless computing, or containerised Python and Node environments, would be beneficial.

    • Architecture & Quality Standards: Experience leading application architecture and building software according to "clean code" and SOLID principles. You drive quality by utilising the test pyramid, implementing automated functional, performance, and security testing, while using metrics to focus test investment.

    • DevOps & Observability: A strong DevOps mindset with fully automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like BuildKite or GitHub Actions. You utilise observability tooling to identify problems, perform root cause analysis, and implement security measures throughout the stack.

    • Cross-functional Leadership & Mindset: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in Agile environments with a passion for mentoring less experienced engineers. You possess a growth mindset, enjoy collaborating across technical and non-technical teams, and eagerly search out opportunities for innovation.
