About the opportunity:
Heavy Vehicle Services Branch (HVS) is responsible for safe, efficient and sustainable heavy vehicle access to the Western Australian (WA) road network. Our role is to achieve objectives for road safety, transport efficiency, community amenity and preservation of the state’s road asset.
At HVS we work with State and National transport industry groups, individual operators, government bodies, regional areas and other key departments across Main Roads and the WA Transport Portfolio.
About the Heavy Vehicle Projects Team
We collaborate extensively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including State and Federal government agencies, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the heavy vehicle industry, Main Roads and the WA Transport Portfolio. This broad engagement ensures that our projects and initiatives align with both WA and national priorities and, deliver practical outcomes for the WA industry and community.
Our team plays a crucial role in shaping the future of heavy vehicle regulation and service delivery in WA. Unlike traditional project officer roles, this position is specialist and strategic, with a strong emphasis on:
- Business improvement initiatives
- ICT projects and digital transformation
- State and National heavy vehicle regulatory programs
- Minor civil works supporting operational outcomes
The role involves coordinating research, analysis, and the development of projects that drive best practice regulation and operational efficiency. These projects contribute directly to Main Roads’ and HVS’s strategic objectives and support industry outcomes across the State.

About You
To be successful in the role of Project Officer - Heavy Vehicle Projects, you will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Experience in heavy vehicle regulatory programs, schemes and initiatives in a State or Federal regulatory organisation
- Demonstrated project and contract management experience
- Strong research, analysis and problem-solving skills
- Experience in policy implementation
- The ability to build and enhance stakeholder relationships.
- Well-developed written communication, including report writing.

All selection criteria listed in the Job Role Statement will be tested throughout the selection process.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a National Police Clearance and pre-employment medical questionnaire as part of this recruitment process.
