About the Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will be accountable for designing and delivering the OPD Safety Plan, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring our Safety Management System is effective, compliant, and future-focused.

You’ll operate at both a strategic and operational level, partnering across the business and with external agencies to strengthen resilience, improve safety outcomes, and embed a strong safety culture.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead Safety Strategy & Planning: Develop and deliver the OPD Safety Plan aligned to Safely Always, ensuring safety priorities support broader operational and business outcomes.
  • Drive Performance Through Insight: Leverage data, reporting, and analytics to identify trends, risks, and causal factors, providing clear insights that enable leaders to improve safety outcomes.
  • Embed Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement initiatives that enhance safety performance, operational efficiency, and compliance, using structured improvement and change methodologies.
  • Oversee Risk, Assurance & Compliance: Lead safety investigations, audits, and risk management processes, ensuring the Safety Management System remains effective, compliant, and fit for purpose.
  • Strengthen Systems & Governance: Continuously improve safety frameworks, processes, and tools to support leaders and teams in meeting legislative requirements and driving a strong safety culture.
  • Lead Business Resilience & Emergency Management: Ensure robust crisis and emergency management capability, including planning, exercising, and continuous improvement of response readiness.
  • Drive Security Operations: Oversee strategies and operations to reduce trespass, theft, and network security risks, improving safety and customer experience.
  • Influence Through Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with internal leaders, Emergency Services, and external stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, influence outcomes, and enhance network safety.

About You

You are a seasoned safety leader with deep experience in complex operational environments. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, and you’re known for influencing at senior levels.

You will bring:

  • Significant leadership experience in safety, risk, or operational management
  • Strong knowledge of safety legislation, governance, and assurance frameworks
  • Proven ability to drive data-driven decision making and continuous improvement
  • Experience leading large-scale change and transformation programs
  • Demonstrated success managing risk, audits, and compliance in complex environments
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, including with external agencies
  • Highly effective at influencing senior stakeholders
  • Experience in complex, high-risk operational environments
