Qualification & Skills
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering suitable for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia or qualifications and experience suitable for admission as Member to the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers
- 5-10 years proven experience in signal design production, checking and verification.
- Proven experience in providing technical engineering services in railway signalling, system design, review, and other similar services.
- Ability to work towards obtaining MTM Competence, involvement in IRSE activities and possessing current IRSE licences are desired
Position Overview
Reporting to Signalling Design Production Manager, the Design Engineer will undertake signal design activities, support functions to the various groups within the Office of Chief Engineer.
Experience Criteria
- Previous experience providing design of technical engineering services in railway infrastructure (signalling) - Relevant experience designing other civil infrastructure will be considered.
- Ability to design software and drafting including Bentley Microstation
- Knowledge of OHS, SID, and environmental requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Production of Signalling Arrangement Plans,control tables, locking tables, locking diagrams, releasing tables etc.
- Complete the design of signalling systems, both concept and final,
- Produce Design Reports and Design Management Plans
- Apply infrastructure, engineering standards and system specifications to design drawings
- Development, preparation and evaluation of options and proposals for longer term renewals and capital works
- Undertake site survey and correlation, signal design checking and verification including mechanical, relay based, geographic and CBI layouts.
- Assist with the production of Engineering Change Notices, Design Practice Notes, Standard Waiver documentation and other internal Metro standards and documentation
- Conduct Safety in Design, peer reviews, audits and briefs
- Identify and assist in resolving non-conformances with the design standards or the operational requirements and advise the OCE Signal Engineering team on acceptability
