ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Engineer – Digital Train Radio Systems (DTRS) is accountable for support of all technical aspects of the DTRS program of works to produce the required technical deliverables and services.
The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and managing the technical aspects of the DTRS works program in conjunction with the DTRS Program Manager and the DTRS Engineering Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the DTRS Engineering Manager by undertaking specific elements or work packages undertaken by the State, Metro Trains (as the franchisee) or Third Parties (within the Metro Trains lease), ensuring they are designed, reviewed and delivered in compliance with the technical standards of Metro Trains and the functional operating requirements of the business.
- Provide specialist technical advice on the DTRS Communications Systems, including asset upgrade, integration, new technology and interfaces with other third party projects, signalling and OCS systems.
- Liaise and manage relevant contractors engaged to complete modifications works to the relevant DTRS sub-systems, and/or network elements to ensure that all design, build, testing, validation, verification and commissioning activities are completed in line with MTM standards and with minimal risk to the operational network.
- To ensure that where there are multidisciplinary impacts from the project works that the correct internal MTM managers and staff are engaged to complete various systems changes through the staging and until project completion.
ABOUT YOU
- Exposure to GSM-R technologies and deployments
- Minimum 5 - 10 years Telecommunications and IT industry experience
- Previous experience with Telecommunication CORE sub-system network element builds and/or upgrades
- Experience with mobile RAN and BTS systems and configurations, mobile coverage plots and RF planning tools.
- Previous experience with 2G and 3G mobile telecommunication systems within a railway environment including implementation challenges and constraints
- Solid technical Rail Operations exposure including Safety, Management of Change, Hazard analysis, Risk management, Operational Transition and acceptance, preferably within the Melbourne Metro Rail environment
- Solid understanding, and experience with Systems Engineering approach to design including Safety in Design, Security in design, RAMS, FMECA, requirements management, V model, testing and requirements verification and validation
- Good understanding of testing mobile telecommunications systems within a live operational and safety critical environment
