ABOUT THE ROLE
The Network Engineer has responsibility for performing ongoing maintenance, administration, configuration and operation of Operation Control Management Systems (OCMS Systems) & Networks and associated support services to ensure they deliver the required level of performance to support the uninterrupted operation of train services.
The position is responsible for providing technical support and technical delivery capabilities to both internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the Networks & Infrastructure Manager to maintain the effective operation of the above OCMS Systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Network Engineer will form part of a technical team responsible for carrying support and enhancement works on MTM’s Operational Control Systems and Network Infrastructure, with a focus on the Signalling Systems and Train Control spaces, as well as conduct systems engineering activities on related interfacing systems and networks as applicable.
- Liaise with professional and technical staff regarding setting up appropriate hardware, software and operating system environments (including virtualisation), carry out integration tasks, perform data configuration, as well as complex problem resolution.
- Responsible for ensuring network designs are future proofed and enable ease of maintenance and monitoring
- Responsible for System and Network Configuration and Administration, including diagnostics and trouble shooting
- Responsible for change management for the introduction of new technology including engineering change, risk management, training and documentation.
- Required to participate in a standby by / call-out support roster
ABOUT YOU
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Telecommunications, Computer Systems, Software Systems) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia
- At least five years of Network/Systems Engineering or related experience;
- Demonstrated experience in network engineering and security;
- Demonstrated experience working in and administering medium to large Linux environments
- Exposure to one or more of the following will be advantageous - Siemens RuggedComm range of products and ROX Operating System, Westermo range of products and WeOS Operating System Extreme Networks range of products and ExtremeXOS Operating System Juniper Networks range of products and Junos Operating System
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Exceptional organisational and work management skills, in particular the ability to meet objectives and produce deliverables within agreed timelines
