Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) are currently recruiting for a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Estimator to join the estimating team supporting the Level Crossing Removal Project as part of the Metro Level Crossing Removal Team (MLXRT). As the Senior Estimator you will be Responsible for the Estimating process throughout a project duration (from inception to close out) including the development of project estimates and providing construction phase support during delivery
This position is offered as full time permanent.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the estimating function for program(s) of works
- Lead autonomously the development of high risk, multi-discipline, and complex estimates at all phases of project development
- Demonstrate and drive best practice in cost estimating
- Liaise effectively with all disciplines leads, program managers, project managers, commercial teams, SMEs, procurement personnel, tier one and partnering contractors, and wider stakeholders to ensure rigorous development of estimates
- Drive effective assessment, quantification, pricing, and communication of commercial risk or opportunity
- Gather and prepare benchmarking and unit rate data to assist preparation and substantiation of cost estimates
- Prepare benchmarking and unit rate data and utilise as basis of Estimating where possible
- Participate in tender evaluation process including preparation of tender analysis
- Prepare and present estimating documentation and reports for senior management review/endorsement
- Provide support to project managers in the area of bid management and project governance
- Lead and mentor other estimators
About You:
- Tertiary qualification which relates to the role of an estimator, e.g. engineering, building, construction or quantity surveying
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in estimating / tendering / cost planning / cost control / quantity surveying
- Experience in rail construction preferred
- Substantial estimating experience across all rail disciplines will be looked upon favourably
- Demonstrated ability to build constructive professional relationships and to effectively manage stakeholders
- Effective written and visual communication skills as well as reviewing, proofing and editing skills
- Highly organised problem solver, with the ability to work autonomously under pressure and retain an attention to detail
