About the role:
As our Works Assistant for the Signals department, you’ll support the delivery of maintenance and renewals, reactive maintenance, system alterations and upgrades, and new works.
You’ll assist with the installation, repair and modification of Infrastructure assets, performing manual work and labouring tasks, as well as operating vehicles, trucks and minor plants. You’ll work with a safety focussed mindset, ensuring any potential hazards and risks are identified and managed in line with OH&S Standards and Metro Trains policies and procedures.

You will need to be open to working anywhere across our network, working with flexibility to undertake shift duties on a 24/7 rotating roster, working reasonable overtime as required.
Responsibilities include:

Assist with the installation, repair, and modification of Infrastructure assets.

Perform manual work associated with the maintenance, renewal, or upgrade of assets.

Perform labouring tasks using both hand tools and mechanical tools.

Operate vehicles, trucks, and minor plant, assisting with the operation of major plant.

Perform safe working duties associated with the day-to-day protection requirements.

Assist with inspections and update the system to provide information on asset condition.

Maintain workplace, yards, and any tools/equipment being used.

Ensure potential hazards and risks are identified and managed.

Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with internal and external regulations, such as OH&S.
About you:
-
Willing to learn and commit time to upskilling.

Willing to take a Category One medical assessment (more information below).
-
Great communication skills, both written and oral, with a good level of working English.

Safety focussed, with knowledge of requirements working in rail/maintenance industry.

First Aid Certificate – preferred.
