About the role:

As our Overhead Safety Observer, you’ll perform Overhead Safety Observing within the MTM rail network, observing and warning against an unsafe approach to electrical HV aerial apparatus.

You’ll need to have awareness in overhead maintenance and thrive working in a team environment, relying on your communication skills to help produce exceptional quality work in line with Metro standards, interacting with various disciplines to uphold our Zero Harm and One Team values.

The key focus of this role is to monitor and maintain the safety of all persons working near overhead electrical assets, so you'll need to have rail safety competency – we'll also provide you with Metro’s Safety Observers Competency training if you’re the successful candidate.

You must be able to undertake work shift duties, on a 24 hour 7 day a week roster, and be prepared to work reasonable overtime as required, and to attend after hours emergencies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safety: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with appropriate OH&S Regulations, the Electrical Safety Rules, and other applicable legislations/regulations/standards.

  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate instructions and guidance to other members of the work team in accordance with the work plan.

  • Reporting/Planning: Complete all necessary reports, material returns, timesheets, claim forms etc. required as part of the overhead asset management or other information systems.

  • Safety/environmental practices: Ensure the safety of all persons working near electrical assets, liaising with other workgroups to ascertain safe work method/s.

  • HSE Responsibility: Ensure potential hazards are identified and prevention and/or control measures are provided in accordance with the work plan and site procedures.

  • Resolve co-ordination requirements with others involved, affected or required by the work.

About you:

  • Certified in Train Track Safety Awareness – Level 1 TTSA

  • Qualified First Aid and CPR Certificates.

  • Have Rail Safety competency.

  • Possess a current Victorian manual drivers’ license.

  • Hold a Worksafe White Card.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in overhead maintenance and installation methods.

  • Extensive knowledge of overhead materials and their handling and assembly.

  • An excellent verbal and written communicator, with good interpersonal skills.

  • Able to read and interpret plans, specifications and other similar documents.
