About the role:
The position of CBTC Technical Specialist is primarily responsible for monitoring the CBTC system to identify potential failures, diagnose errors occurring, and support the appropriate resolution response.
This position will ensure the timely escalation and clarity pertaining to issues with HCMT (CBTC onboard train) related, CBTC system, or wayside CBTC hardware.
Please note: These positions are located permanently at the Signal Control Centre in Sunshine with a potential sporadic requirement to work from Dandenong.
Responsibilities include:
- Triage CBTC faults/incidents to determine and attribute course of action to rectify the issue. Escalate field related infrastructure faults to the relevant fault centres for rectification.
- Collaborate with MTM Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) Signaller and Downer Fleet Operation Service Officer (FOSO) to diagnose the problem and enact resolution to ensure revenue service train operation. Through in-depth CBTC rule knowledge provide the Signaller & FOSO with the technical knowledge to determine whether train borne failures require the cancellation of the service.
- Have oversight CBTC faults/incidents and through consultation with the relevant fault centres provide an estimate of time to fix to the signaller, enabling the signaller to make a decision about how they should respond.
- Provide technical advice to assist Signal & Platform Screen Doors (PSD) Infrastructure maintainers carrying out Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) repairs and fault Identification. Provide maintainers with diagnostic information to support fault rectification. Determine if escalation required to Alstom via L2 or L3 maintenance support.
- Escalate Fibre Optic faults to the Fault Centre. Provide on-site Fibre maintainer with diagnostic information to assist with rectifying the fault. Determine if escalation is required to Alstom via L2 or L3 maintenance support.
- Monitor alarms and diagnostic activity through the ATS technician’s terminal, Maintenance Diagnostic Centre (MDC), CityFlo Monitoring System (CFMS) & other systems as required to identify latent failures. Conduct reliability analysis and interpret failures or unscheduled system outage make recommendations to improve CBTC efficiency.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Fault Centres and Maintenance teams to resolve unusual problems in system operation and maintenance.
- Participate in high-level root cause analysis & manage the fault identification process, escalating to L2 and L3 maintenance support as required. Use fault history in the diagnostics of elusive or repetitive faults.
- Maintain the ATS & Data Transmission Systems (DTS) network with in the Sunshine and Dandenong control centres.
- Support projects to ensure system upgrades are implemented within the necessary time frame without disruption to the rail services.
- Follow the direction of either the CBTC Supervisor, Principal Technical Lead or Signal Management team. Notify Infrastructure Signal management of all failure that identify safety critical system faults and failures that have a high risk to ongoing service operations.
- Any other duties as specified by CBTC manager and Signal Management team.
About you:
- Demonstrated ability to read network architecture drawings and network cable running plans
- Ability to commit to a roster covering 24/7 requirements.
- Solid knowledge of formal engineering change processes and continuous improvement processes
- Data analysis of control systems
- CBTC Subsystem operation desirable
- Rail Safety Worker, and Rail Industry Worker qualification preferable
Mandatory:
- Engineering Degree or Graduate Diploma of Signalling & Telecommunications or Certificate IV in Rail Signalling
Preferred:
- Communication Based Train Control Subsystem Operations
- Conventional Railway Signalling knowledge or Qualification desirable
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Knowledge of Quality/System Assurance processes
- Rail Safety Worker
