About the Team
Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) are currently seeking dynamic Senior Supervisor (Signalling) to be part of our Franchise Projects Division. The Franchise Projects portfolio includes all projects delivered by Metro Trains on behalf of the Department of Transport (Formerly PTV). It includes Third Party Projects accessing our network to conduct their own works examples of these are: The Westgate Tunnel Project, North East Link and major Utilities like Melbourne Water.
About the Role
As the Senior Supervisor (Signalling), you will be required to monitor, organise and examine works on-site against the time, budget and program, whilst ensuring MTM and industry standards are maintained, operational impacts are mitigated and safety, reliability and quality requirements are always adopted.
This is a full-time permanent role which will be primarily site based, however also required to work at 700 Collins Street, Docklands.
Accountabilities
The key responsibilities of a Senior Supervisor will include but not be limited to:
- Provide management on site during general construction works, occupations, including nights and weekends, as required, and agreed with the Senior Project Manager. Ensure that MTM’s Procedures and Accreditation processes are maintained by Contractors onsite at all times
- Leads and manages a team of Supervisors and Site Engineers, both staff and contractors, to successfully deliver Program and Project outcomes.
- Monitor the Contractor’s activities on site and compliance with the technical and quality contractual requirements, and immediately escalate any shortfalls with the Contract or Contractors activities to the Project Manager and or Senior Project Manager
- Provide and take leadership responsibility in health, safety and environment management and encourage the reporting of ALL incidents
- Maintain effective consultation with various workers’ representatives and committees on industrial and safety subjects handling issues as they arise and referring major issues to the Project Manager and or Senior Project Manager
- Prepare site documentation as required in the delivery of projects and ensuring that adequate project records are developed and maintained, including, but not limited to, site diaries, contract instructions, incident reports etc.
- Contribute to development of work methods and rolling short term construction programs and plan daily/weekly production work
- Understand and Identify work practices, methods and activities that can be revised to improve efficiencies, safety or effectiveness
- Complete progress, shift reports and activity notes for works, shift handovers and milestones to ensure consistent regular reporting to the Project Manager and or Senior Project Manager
- Understand and interpret drawings, plans, specifications and other documentation to support work activities and correlate against IFC designs with constructive notes to support as required.
- Regularly liaise and interact with the relevant Project team members to ensure project safety, time, and quality targets are achieved
- Report frequently to the Project Manager and relevant Project team members on the progress of and all material issues regarding the assigned projects and any matters coming to the Senior Supervisor’s attention which could have a material adverse effect on the business of MTM
- Directly liaise with MTM Infrastructure where input is required to the works and to ensure a smooth handover of the final project. Consult with MTM Infrastructure, as required, to assist the Contractor(s) in the completion of the Works
- Manages stakeholders to ensure best for project decisions are made while protecting Metro’s assets for a safe and on time handover.
- If required, must confer with other team members of the Projects Group, the broader MTM business including professional, technical and operational staff and external agencies to ensure the cohesive implementation and delivery of projects
- Recruit, develop and retain high calibre team members
Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Qualification in Signalling and/or Electrical Qualification
- Technical competency and understanding in the area being supervised
- Proven previous Rail Signalling Construction experience (including Signalling & Civil)
- Demonstrated previous experience managing supervisors
- Extensive Industry experience or similar
- Experience with MTM & MTM standards & procedures & demonstrated knowledge of the MTM network (Key Junctions, Major Stations)
- Experience in Construction Management with respect to Quality and Safety & knowledge of Contract Management
- Knowledge and understanding of rail operating safety procedures
