About the role
Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) is embarking on a once in a lifetime generational change due to the investment in new infrastructure such as Melbourne Tunnel Project (MTP) and Melbourne Airport Rail (MAR), resulting in a growing network and the opportunity to deliver year on year innovative transport solutions for the city of Melbourne.
A highly sought-after opportunity for a General Manager, Timetabling and Planning has arisen within our Timetable and Planning team. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the GM Timetabling and Planning is responsible for leading and directing all activities to support future and current timetable activities.
Responsibilities include the joining of the long term and short term timetabling activities to improve integration and efficiency. This involves:
- development of the master timetables from a concept stage through approvals with key stakeholders, to bring them into service. These timetables need to understand the interfaces between the metropolitan and regional passenger services as well as freight, cater for patronage demand, be operationally deliverable, improve network performance and realise the declared project benefits of the Government’s Big Build
- leading the day to day and special timetables area forms an important component of the role to ensure these are produced in a timely and accurate way to deliver excellent service to passengers
- ensuring that there is close liaison with the modelling and analytical team for MTM and the timetables are operationally robust and protect network performance.
You will lead a sizeable team to ensure alignment of key stakeholders’ expectations and objectives are consistent with MTM's strategic vision.
About you
You will be a highly effective communicator with proven senior leadership experience in leading and developing teams in complex operating environments or similar. In addition, you will possess:
- A proven track record and high level of expertise in the development of robust, passenger focussed timetables to support planned changes for the future network configuration states.
- Extensive ability to present and communicate information to Board Directors, Senior Executives and senior management and key stakeholders on complex transport issues and risks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience, including the ability to negotiate and influence at all levels both internally and externally.
- Sound understanding of rail simulation modelling and experience in interpreting results in both RailSys and TrainOps will be highly advantageous.
- Strong strategic and commercial acumen
