Position Purpose Statement
We are seeking an experienced senior professional to bring their strategic thinking and experience to establish and drive the operational excellence strategy to run a safe, reliable, and disciplined railway. In this role, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives for employees and passengers and seek opportunities to raise our capability to consistently deliver safe, efficient, and passenger-centric services underpinned by sound commercial decisions.
Additionally, this role will partner with and support the Passenger Delivery Leadership Team to develop strategies that will yield long-term sustainable improvement and growth. About the Role
We are seeking a unique person who has an appetite for change and a strong desire to drive continuous improvement. As General Manager, Operations, you will:
- Lead a team to establish and deliver the strategy, in addition to a mindset and culture of operational and passenger excellence and continuous improvement for a sustainable future
- Ensure the Department demonstrates an integrated and coordinated approach across network operations, planning, security, train services, standards, and performance, in addition to facilitating a seamless relationship across the Passenger Delivery departments
- Facilitate productive and effective relationships between Operations employees and employees in Network Integration and Projects which result in the seamless delivery of key Government projects for passengers and our stakeholders
- Deliver continuous improvements across all safety initiatives and measures including operational, occupational and passenger matters driving to zero harm.
- Bring impactful and coordinated Passenger Information to change passenger travel behaviours and improve the holistic passenger travel experience
- Build and guide a high-performing leadership team who are connected with passengers and front-line employees and maintain efforts to continuously improve front-line capability through open, honest, and regular communications
- Ensure robust planning and change principles are utilised throughout the Department to support continuous improvement and deliver high levels of employee and passenger engagement

Qualification, Skills, and Experience
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Significant senior leadership and business transformation experience in railway operations, projects, maintenance, strategy, and business planning
- The ability to communicate effectively, influence others, gain cooperation and be highly articulate and engaging when communicating information to staff and stakeholders
- A demonstrated strategic planning focus with an ability to articulate long-term business plans and bring these to fruition
- Previous experience leading a large team and delivering effective outcomes in a complex environment
- A proven track record of developing and implementing strategies that are focused on business improvement
- An understanding of matrix management techniques with a demonstrated high level of application including consultation, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal relationship skills
- Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Business Management, Transport Operations, or similar (desirable)
