About the position:
Our Substation Testing team is expanding and looking to hire day shift testers to perform critical maintenance, fault investigations, commissioning and acceptance testing of all equipment associated with traction substations and HV signal power systems. You’ll be part of a team of 10 Substation Testers, responsible for safe operation of substations in the MTM network.
This is a challenging role for someone who has prior experience in testing and is looking to expand their knowledge in rail network. You’ll get a chance to work with the latest technology, and also with technology more than 40 years old.
This position is an EBA role based in our Burnley Depot, working on a Monday to Friday basis with the opportunity for regular overtime.
Main duties include:
- Maintenance testing of 150 traction substations and signal power systems.
- Commissioning and acceptance testing of new and existing traction substations and signal power systems.
- Responding to system faults and working with engineers to rectify faults.
- Working with the substation testing team to plan testing and commissioning activities.
- Preparing test plans (primary and secondary), and documenting tests performed, including completing ITPs and ITSs.
- Seek and implement continuous improvement, focussing on having the lowest cost base, improved productivity, and effectiveness.
- After safety, always put the passenger first when making long and short-term decisions and taking actions.
- Build collaborative networks with internal and external stakeholders.
About you:
- Advanced diploma or equivalent in Power Systems (or willing to obtain whilst working)
- ESI Cert IV Substations (or equivalent qualification)
- Electrician's Licence (known as A Class/A/E licence).
- Experience in testing high voltage apparatus (transformers, switchboards etc.) and cables.
- Experience in performing primary and secondary protection testing.
- Experience in preparing test plans.
- Experience in performing testing in high voltage substation environments.
- Ability to read, interpret, and fault find using electrical drawings (schematics, SLDs etc.).
- Strong commitment to quality assurance, WHS, and the environment.
- Current Driver's license.
- Willingness to do overtime work when required.
