About the role

The Junior Technical Lead - EV120 (Track Recording Vehicle) is required to provide technical expertise across various forms of Infrastructure asset condition monitoring systems. Fundamentally, the role will support the EV120 Track Recorder Team to coordinate Infrastructure asset condition monitoring systems as safely, effectively & efficiently as possible. The role will include working with cutting edge technologies (both hardware & software), big data analysis and machine learning algorithms. The role will require you to work on the country network in regional Victoria from time to time which includes working away from home overnight.

This role is based out of the E-Gate Infrastructure Depot, Docklands. When not at E-Gate, you will spend your time travelling in the vehicle doing various track assessments.

What is EV120?

  • EV120 is the newest (and arguably the best!) track recording vehicle in Australia.
  • It has 12 different systems on board that give us the capability to look not only at the track, but also underneath the track (with ground penetrating radar), around the track (with LiDar), and also above the track at the overheads.
  • We are working towards adding an additional system soon (Ultrasonics) which will allow us to look inside the rail (Non-destructive testing) to locate any internal defects.
  • Working onboard the EV120 allows you to record/travel on tracks that are not normally traversed by passenger services.

Responsibilities

  • Seek and implement innovative methods of improving accuracy, production, and safety

  • Support the delivery of works by assisting with planning, project management, work methodology and implementation of works on site to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely and complies with designs and Metro Trains’ standards, specifications, and procedures

  • Ensure works are completed in accordance with the Technical Maintenance Plans

  • Monitor the quality of works undertaken and ensure corrective actions are undertaken where deficiencies are identified

  • Assist with investigations and review investigations reports as required under the guidance

  • Identify and support Engineering in Type Approvals of all Infrastructure asset condition monitoring systems

  • Perform risk assessments of Infrastructure asset condition monitoring system processes, work practices, materials, suppliers, and innovations to ensure work is delivered as efficiently and safely as possible

  • Undertake hands-on calibration and maintenance of the hardware aspects of remote condition monitoring

About you

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering or related field

  • Available to work away from home occasionally (possibly once a month) in regional Victoria

  • Cert II – Rail Infrastructure (Core and Track Fundamentals)

  • Experience in the rail or related industry

  • Manual or automatic driver licence

  • Sound knowledge of the safety requirements of working in the rail and maintenance industry,
