We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness, and network performance teams.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and highly driven Safety & Risk Advisor to develop and deliver dedicated safety program activities for the operations of the HCMT fleet to ensure application of the Safety Management System. In this role, you will also:
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external safety specialist relevant to HCMT operations
- Drive consistency and quality in the conduct of risk assessments, audits and verification processes, investigations, and corrective actions to ensure continual improvement of safety performance so as to minimise operational risk and enhance operational performance.
- Provide specialist rail safety safe-working advice and guidance to the Fleet interface, HCMT team.
- Provide advice, support and coach team members in the use of safety systems and processes.
- Attend significant Metro Trains Melbourne incidents as the on-call Investigator to commence incident investigation on behalf of the business
- Provide initial reporting on person struck incidents and complete associated investigation reports
- Attend Safety Operations daily risk assessments
- Attend Safety Operations team meetings and forums to ensure consistency in application of safety practice across the division

About you
You will be a highly effective communicator (both verbal and written). Your knowledge of Operational Safeworking practices and operational requirements of the metropolitan rail system will be highly regarded but is not essential. To be successful in this role, you will also need to demonstrate the following:
- Minimum diploma level qualifications in a Health, Safety or Environment related discipline and extensive proven experience. Engineering qualifications will be highly regarded.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments, audits and task observations.
- Experience in managing and leading safety investigations.
- Ability to manage difficult and complex tasks within tight timeframes.
- Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining compliance with legislation, standards or a similar discipline.
- Must possess well developed interpersonal and conflict resolution skills including stakeholder relationship management.
