Operations & Passenger Delivery team is committed to keeping Melbourne moving by delivering exceptional passenger experiences through, on time, reliable, safe and efficient services. We achieve this through face-to-face interactions by our frontline teams, supported by our safety operations, operational readiness, and network performance teams.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and people focussed professional to provide service leadership and accountability for all aspects of Depot and Driver performance to ensure a high level of safety, performance, engagement, continual professional development and ongoing business improvement, whilst managing a team of drivers. Our Depot Train Driver Managers (DTDM) play a key role within the Train Driver Depot Management team.
The safety of our passengers and staff is paramount and the role of Depot Train Driver Managers is to create and maintain a professional safety culture within Train Services. Other core responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Proactively review and drive frontline team performance, ensuring that efforts are aligned with MTMs values, goals and strategy
- Support Operations disruption management through planning and preparation and on-site support where required
- Coach and mentor Drivers to ensure ongoing professional development and encourage exceptional job performance
- Ensure the welfare of team members, monitor and address employee fitness for work and regularly conduct ‘welfare checks’ with Drivers
- Manage all performance and conduct related matters through both informal and formal means
- Effectively communicate with Drivers through in field visits, ensuring two-way communication and that safety critical communications standards are maintained
- Be proactive in managing all Occupational Health and Safety aspects of Driver areas and lead and coordinate weekly inspections
Our Train Drivers operate on a 24/7 rotating roster, as such Depot Managers are expected to communicate with each driver periodically but may need to do this remotely due to their roster.
Whilst general expected days of work are from Monday – Friday, the nature of the position will require flexibility to respond to circumstances on weekends and at night and work across the various locations within Melbourne Metropolitan. This position will be based in Frankston depot.
About You
You will be a highly effective communicator with proven leadership experience with managing sizeable team/s in a live Operations environment and/or a similar background. In addition, Train Driver qualified will be highly regarded (is not essential). Other key requirements include:
- You will possess genuine compassion about our Drivers and able to provide upmost care
- Strong decision-making skills in the minute to minute nature of operations
- Strong stakeholder management with key operational leaders across the business
- Strong problem solving and reporting skills
