About the role
The Rail Safety Compliance Advisor plays a key role in ensuring adherence to Metro’s safety and regulatory requirements with a strong focus on Rail Operations and Maintenance. In this role, you will review incident data, maintain safety management systems, and work collaboratively on implementing corrective actions. Your contributions will support continuous safety improvements and alignment with industry standards, while fostering a proactive, Zero Harm, and psychologically safe workplace culture.
You will also support Metro Tunnel operations by coordinating Track Access requirements across multiple stakeholders to enable safe and efficient maintenance activities.
This is a 24-month contract position, based in Docklands/West Melbourne, working Monday to Friday (hybrid arrangement with 3 days in the office).
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and support technical, process, and digital enhancements to improve safety practices and tools.
- Monitor adherence to Metro’s and contractor safety standards, update procedures, and align with industry regulations like RISSB.
- Maintain and improve safety management systems and resolve system issues.
- Review safety and incident data to identify trends, prepare reports, and support proactive safety planning.
- Provide safety compliance input for projects, conduct checks, and assist in training development and delivery.
- Foster a supportive safety culture and stay informed on industry changes to maintain regulatory alignment.
About you
- Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or equivalent
- Strong experience in safety compliance or coordination in a high-risk environment such as rail or infrastructure.
- Good understanding of rail safety rules and OHS laws.
- Experience supporting safety tasks and ensuring compliance.
- ICAM – Lead Investigator qualification would be an advantage
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to support team members and engage with a variety of stakeholders
