Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation seeks a new Energy Regulatory Program Manager / Senior Energy Regulatory Program Manager focusing on the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The candidate will be responsible for strategizing and leading program management related to energy regulatory and policy development with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders important to datacenter and energy infrastructure delivery within the APAC region.

The objective of this program is to empower the APAC Energy Team to achieve Infrastructure Developments, Cost Optimization and Sustainability targets in alignment with Microsoft’s vision.

In addition to the stakeholders within Cloud Operation & Innovation team, The Energy Regulatory Program Manager / Senior Energy Regulatory Program Manager will work closely with Microsoft’s Corporate External and Legal Affairs teams,

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • MBA/post-graduate and/or Bachelor degree(s) in relevant fields, though experience in power/energy industries may substitute for relevant graduate education in this regard.
  • 10+ years of experience in the related roles (depending on seniority), specific experience in the Policy and Regulations space within the energy and utility industry in various APAC markets would be highly regarded.
  • Understanding of the regulatory frameworks, planning processes, investment models and customer connection procedures for distribution and transmission networks
  • Broad understanding of the power industry, with specific focus on the mechanics of power markets
  • Understanding and experience working with regulatory bodies in the energy and utility industry

While not required, we also look for the followingPreferred Qualifications:

  • General understanding of data centers, cloud services, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) developments.
  • Team player capable of adapting to ambiguous environments with cross-group collaboration and problem-solving abilities with Growth mindset.
  • Strong analytical capabilities to support review of utility tariffs, power contracts, and power market fundamentals.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Continue to reinforce APAC electric & datacenter regulatory program designed to deliver on Microsoft’s energy infrastructure needs including - inc. Availability and Reliability metrics, Power Application rules, and access to reliable and decarbonized power system – including to support Microsoft’s long-term 100/100/0 vision – that on all the world’s grids, 100 percent of electrons, 100 percent of the time are generated from zero carbon sources.
  • Lead a comprehensive and strategic assessment of the energy regulatory environment impacting Microsoft’s Asia Pacific. data center energy portfolio including electric tariff & pricing, energy market design, power market trends. This will involve both regulated and deregulated power markets in the APAC region
  • Define regulatory advocacy priorities & build engagement plan with electric regulators, other large commercial and industrial electricity consumers, and coalitions that are critical to Microsoft’s energy delivery needs.
  • Work cross-functionally with Corporate External and Legal Affairs, Finance, Risk, and other infrastructure, planning, and acquisitions teams to enable and empower success.
