Project Manager – Public Realm & Community Spaces

  • Band 6 role - salary commencing at $100,577.99 per annum, plus 12% superannuation (commensurate with skills and experience)

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a dedicated Project Manager to join our Public Realm Capital Projects team to oversee the delivery of public playspaces and other capital works associated with Council’s early years facilities. The Public Realm team sits within the Engineering Services & Capital Works Delivery Department. This role is responsible for the effective delivery of assigned capital works projects from concept through to completion including design and documentation oversight, permits and approvals, construction supervision, and contract administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of multiple capital works projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
  • Oversee design development, procurement, tendering, and contract administration processes.
  • Coordinate consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with agreed design specifications, safety standards, and Council policies.
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets, financial reports, and funding allocations.
  • Provide timely and accurate project updates, reports, and executive briefings.
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal teams, contractors, consultants, community groups, and external agencies to ensure clear communication and positive working relationships.
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions to complex design and construction challenges, promoting cost efficiency and timely decision-making.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in project management, engineering, landscape architecture, or a related field, supported by practical experience managing design and construction projects.
  • Demonstrated strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver multiple projects within agreed timeframes and budgets.
  • Well-developed communication and negotiation skills that will enable you to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, consultants, and contractors.
  • A sound understanding of design and construction principles, budgeting and procurement processes, and contract management is essential.
  • Experience in the delivery of open space, public realm and/or community infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.
