Statutory Planner

- Salary commencing at $91,783.72 per annum plus 11% superannuation (commensurate with experience)
- Provide quality specialist services in a hybrid work environment.
The Opportunity
This role is critical to the provision of quality specialist services, guidance and advice in all facets of statutory planning, subdivision control and other services provided by the Planning and Building Department (including enforcement support) in order to assist Council in meeting its legislative obligations and the achievement of its planning objectives for the benefit of residents, ratepayers and business in the City of Moonee Valley.
You will assist in ensuring the Planning and Building Department meets the objectives and requirements of Council under the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Subdivision Act 1988, the Planning Scheme and other related legislation.
This role will continue to provide quality Customer service to all stakeholders within the development application process, with a focus on achieving positive outcomes for the broader community.
Responsibilities of the Statutory Planner at Council include:
- Promptly consider, process and assess planning applications in accordance with the Planning Scheme, Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Subdivision Act 1988 and policy requirements, including the referral of applications, giving of notice, requesting further information and negotiating with applicants and other persons and/or authorities.
- Confer with applicants, objectors, government agencies, internal departments and other interested parties to resolve planning issues.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports on planning, subdivision and other matters concerning services provided by the department.
- Implement the Moonee Valley Planning Scheme and Council's planning policies and disseminate up to date information to the general public and other internal departments in a verbal and written form.
- Respond to enquiries and advise the public and Council officers of development requirements and legal status under Moonee Valley Planning Scheme, Planning and Environment Act 1987, and related government planning legislation.
- Confidently assess Sustainable Development Design reports and submissions, including Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD).
Skills & Experience required
- A tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or related discipline is essential.
- Some relevant experience in Statutory Planning desirable.
- Some knowledge of processes, planning schemes, planning legislation and other applicable legislation such as for Liquor Licences and Subdivisions
- Effective presentation skills
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Conflict resolution skills and understanding of meditation processes and techniques
- The ability to provide prompt, accurate, courteous and consistent customer services.
