Located within the Health and Family Wellbeing Unit of the Family and Children's Services Department, the Moonee Valley Maternal & Child Health service is dedicated to delivering exceptional care to children and families in our community. We honour parents as experts in their children's care, offering evidence-based support and advice to enhance parenting practices. Our team of health professionals is deeply committed to building strong, supportive relationships with families and communities.

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is excited to offer opportunities for Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Nurses who are passionate about partnering with families and children. Reporting to the Team Leader MCH, you will provide vital care and support from the perinatal period through to school age, promoting the optimal health and wellbeing of children. Our universal primary care service includes home visits, centre consultations, assertive outreach, and group consultancy, including New Parent Groups and Sleep and Settling information sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Maternal & Child Health services, including health assessments for infants and children aged 0-5 years.
  • Foster a family-centred approach, working in partnership with families, carers, significant others, and professional partners, while respecting cultural, religious, and family norms and values.
  • Support, guide, and inform families on child growth, learning and development, health and hygiene, nutrition, parenting, and safety.
  • Connect families to other services based on their needs.
  • Engage parents in parenting programs through various services and programs, including New Parent Groups and the Sleep and Settling sessions.
  • Refer families to other professionals, such as Allied Health services, as needed.
  • Identify and support emotional wellbeing issues, including postnatal depression.
  • Advocate for children and parents within the scope of the MCH Nurse role.
  • Identify health needs and implement actions to enhance community health.
  • Perform other general clinic duties as directed by the Team Leader MCH.

Skills & Experience

  • Current Nurse and Midwife registration with AHPRA.
  • Qualification in Family, Child, and Community Health or equivalent (as defined by AHPRA).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Child and Family Violence Information Sharing Schemes and Risk Assessment Frameworks, along with Child Safe Standards.
  • Current Victorian Driver's Licence, Working with Children Check, and Level 2 First Aid.
