Job Expectations

Build your career and Australia’s future.

Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.

A fantastic opportunity has presented itself for a Linux System Admin & Security Operations This role reports to the Executive Manager, EMS and Security Operations and plays a vital part in caring for the platforms that underpin Australia’s critical network services.

A bit about your role

As a Linux Systems Admin & Security Operations, you will be a trusted subject matter expert for nbn’s Element Management Systems, providing deep technical leadership across assurance, availability, and security of the active network. You will work at the highest level of operational escalation, partnering closely with our Network Operations teams, designers, architects, vendors and security specialists to resolve complex incidents, strengthen resilience, and safeguard customer outcomes.

In this role, your contribution will directly support network uptime, regulatory commitments, and customer confidence. You will lead maintenance, patching, upgrades and secure configuration of business-critical EMS platforms, while guiding the operational readiness of new technologies as they move into production. Through thoughtful collaboration and calm expertise, you will mentor others, translate operational needs into design outcomes, and ensure security controls align with both nbn standards and Essential Eight principles. Your work will help create a stable, secure and future-ready network that Australians can rely on every day.

A bit about you

You are an experienced technical specialist who brings clarity, care and confidence to complex environments. With substantial hands-on experience across telecommunications or large-scale IT operations, you are comfortable working deeply with Element Management Systems, server platforms and virtualised environments, and you genuinely enjoy solving intricate problems alongside others.

You lead with empathy and collaboration, balancing strong technical judgement with an inclusive, supportive approach. You are generous with your knowledge, calm under pressure, and motivated by purpose, knowing that your work has a real impact on customers and communities. You value security, resilience and continuous improvement, and you approach change with curiosity and discipline. If you enjoy partnering across diverse teams, mentoring others, and contributing to something bigger than yourself, this role at nbn will feel like home.
