A fantastic opportunity at nbn, Australia’s largest infrastructure project, as the Machine Learning Engineer, reporting to the Head of Data Science, COE where you will join the Office of the Chief Data Officer, a key pillar within the Strategic Services Business unit.

A bit about your role

nbn is streamlining and improving the quality and flow of data across the entire organisation as well as performance management and advanced analytics capabilities to support day to day operations and decision making for all levels within nbn. In this role, you will perform the delivery of high-quality data science solutions to high priority business problems, with a focus on protecting, managing and promoting data as a strategic asset for nbn and its stakeholders, in a sustainable, scalable and cost-efficient manner.

The position will require you to understand challenges in multiple business domains, discovering new business opportunities while being comfortable shaping problem definitions and working with ambiguity. The problems addressed are significantly complex, you will demonstrate excellence in data science methodologies and represent CDO best practices.

You will seek to identify and implement robust, efficient and scalable solutions that leverage multiple techniques and/or technologies. You will consider and quantify cross-organisation trade-offs to implement mechanisms to ensure that benefit persists. You will be required to deliver on advanced analytic and data science engagements with the business, catering for stakeholder expectations regarding delivery and testing approach, development of machine learning models, and evaluating new techniques. You will play a key role in the nbn Data Science community, defining and developing standards and best practices across the analytic and ML lifecycle & in advocating best practice and the ongoing development of other analytics practitioners.

A bit about you
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in applying a breadth of analytics skills to drive projects and BAU activities, applying MLOps/Devops methodologies on Machine Learning solutions, leading to proven business value and impact on strategic decisions. You will have an agile development mindset, appreciating the benefit of constant iteration and improvement.

You have experience with AWS, with excellent data manipulation and data transformation skills. Ideally, you will have a working experience with one or more machine learning platforms such as Sagemaker (desirable), Kubeflow or GCP AI platform and a strong understanding and hand-on experience in cloud engineering and modern devops practices including an in-depth understanding of Linux and bash/shell scripting, automation (gitops, dataops, CICD, infrastructure as code), deployment strategies, container and container orchestration (docker and kubernetes), serverless (lambda, knative), micro service architecture, API design and documentation (OpenAPI format), API deployment and scaling distributed systems (load balancing, ingress/egress controllers).
