The Role
We are seeking a highly technical and operationally competent Category Specialist to be part of the Brisbane-based Sourcing team providing expertise in strategic procurement delivery, and management of goods and services contracts.
The ideal candidate understands the tender management process and is able to execute supply contracts, including compliance performance and variations. You will support and provide input on issues relating to all aspects of category management and sourcing activities as well as engage, develop, and support suppliers.

The Brisbane office is located at 147 Coronation Drive, Milton overlooking the Brisbane River and is within walking distance to the Milton train station, cafes, and parking options.
Additional scope of your role will cover:
- Planning of category strategies, negotiation plans, sourcing, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
- Assist with implementing strategic category management plans for the nominated category to achieve best practice procurement.
- Support cross-functional sourcing procurement projects.
- Assist in activities including the development of relevant approach-to-market strategies and documentation that are fit-for-purpose for best-value procurement.
- Identify and action continuous improvement ideas, improved efficiencies, and purchasing behavioral change.
- Provide commercial support and advice to the business in managing suppliers and spending leadership.
This role is crucial in supporting the Senior Category Lead and will deliver value in three key areas:
- Stable, correct process: As a Subject Matter Expert in all Procure to Pay (P2P) activities, you will embrace the task of shaping adoption and compliance, and providing training and advice to site customers, supported by the Lihir site-based Contracts and Sourcing team.
- Customer service focus: Your service mindset will raise the profile of the Lihir Procurement team through coaching on exceptional customer service.
- Cost improvements to drive value: Your strong skills and experience in Category and supplier management will help to evaluate opportunities for cost savings and improvement, and you will develop and deliver improvements across the holistic Lihir procurement function from demand to purchase to payment.
Qualifications and technical experience include but are not limited to:
- Bachelor level of commercial-related tertiary qualification (Commerce, Law, Supply Chain, or equivalent)
- 3+ years of experience in a combination of commercial/procurement roles, with a proven track record of success, ideally within the mining industry.
- Skilled in reviewing and understanding contractual terms contained in Agreements, including the ability to interpret commercial and tactical implementation impacts
- Good understanding of and experience in SAP Procurement Suite and the full Procure to Pay (P2P) lifecycle
- Successful involvement in complex projects and ability to manage competing deadlines within tight timeframes and experience in Contract Management/Sourcing/ Vendor Management / Supplier Relationship Management.
- Solid financial comprehension of procurement impacts, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams.
- Sound knowledge of contract law and legislative requirements associated with procurement and negotiation.
Mobilisation Requirements
- This is a Brisbane-based role.
- Ability to provide/obtain a valid police clearance.
- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
