Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional township of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Who we’re looking for

Reporting to the Principal - Geotechnical Engineering Mining Projects, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer QAQC will ensure the highest ground support standards are implemented at Cadia Valley operations and fit for purpose ground support elements and systems are investigated, tested, and implemented.

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer – QAQC will be a people leader and will have a particular emphasis on maintaining a minimum safe standard for all personnel, infrastructure and equipment on site as well as mitigating the potential outcomes of geotechnical hazards to the site and company.

In addition, the Senior will implement business improvement through problem solving, innovation and technology.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for ensuring quality assurance and quality control procedures are employed and adhered to through time spent in the field.
  • Responsible for the relative documentation to be complete and up to date as per the Geotechnical Department documentation timeline.
  • Responsible for the completion and presentation of the monthly report on the quality assurance and quality control of ground support and reinforcement by summarising the completed verifications with respect to information collected by the Ground Control Technicians.
  • Accountable for verifying all new excavations have been constructed as per the approved design and are ready for service.
  • Quality assurance and quality control completed through time in the field by the technicians and yourself, you are accountable for characterising the performance of excavation development with respect to the approved design specifications.
  • Responsible for actioning opportunities to implement business improvements with respect to reporting, verifying, and executing the design within WAVE where required.

The ideal candidate will have highly developed analytical communication skills in addition to a very high hazard specific technical competency.

You will also possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical, Civil or Mining Engineering
  • Significant underground experience in Hard rock Mining
  • Demonstrated experience with ground support design and QAQC.
  • Caving and geotechnical hazards management experience– Highly regarded.

Please note: This is a 5/2 (9 hours per day) or 9 days per fortnight (10 hours per day) residential role in Orange, NSW.
