West Musgrave will be one of the world’s largest, lowest cost, lowest emissions copper-nickel projects, built and operated by OZ Minerals, a modern mining company.

Our West Musgrave nickel-copper project is located on Ngaanyatjarra country, in the Musgrave Province of Central Western Australia, and includes the Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits and the Succoth copper deposit.
West Musgrave, which has a 26-year mine life, will be an owner-operator mining operation and in addition to being powered by ~80 per cent renewable energy, the Project scope includes a pathway to net zero Scope 1 emissions by 2038.
The Project will feature an Autonomous Haulage System and remote operations from day one and our workforce will be a flexible, technology enabled team supported by remote operations to improve safety outcomes and maximise opportunities for flexible working and diverse participation.

About the Role
Location: Flexible, with Perth preferred
Roster: 5:2 Monday to Friday / Flexible. We are keen to speak with you about how you will make this work!

The Details
Help us set up our newest, open pit mining project!
Reporting to the Health, Safety, People, Community & Training Manager, you will support the Asset capability required to deliver the West Musgrave project through the Construction phases in support of OZ Minerals' growth strategy.
You will provide strong leadership and direction to the site health and safety team, at West Musgrave, and above all, you will foster a culture of care for our people and community
You will play a key role in developing and strengthening a culture based on the How We Work Together (HWWT) principles and the West Musgrave We Care approach. We Care is a multilayered program showing We Care at an individual (I), team (we) and community level (us), we aspire for OZ Minerals to earn a reputation as a place where people thrive.
Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who is detail orientated, can work effectively within an established team, and experienced in setting up processes and rolling out new systems across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
The primary purpose of this role is to create and subsequently manage the health and safety management systems and team for West Musgrave aligned with the OZWay. Specifically, this includes:
Operations Readiness (Now):
- Develop the health, safety, and risk management systems and processes to achieve compliance with legislative and OZ Way Requirements, including the Oz Minerals Global Performance and Process Standards.
- Collaborate with the small operations readiness team to design roles and processes and the interaction between all three in a way that health, safety and wellbeing is embedded at all levels.
Operations (2+ Years)
- Lead a high performing team to enable industry leading practices in health, safety, and risk.
- Lead the health and safety strategy.
- Drive the critical safety risk management processes and fatality prevention programs.
- Oversee the site Emergency Management practices and processes.
- Manage, analyse, and report on health, safety, and risk compliance.
Applicant Requirements
This role requires a self-motivated, hands on and values-based individual with a desire to deliver best practice outcomes with skills, experience, and personal attributes including:
- Demonstrated experience in creating and establishing health, safety and risk programs in mining or other high-risk industries.
- A strong knowledge of health & safety related legislative requirements.
- A communicator with solid experience in promoting and strengthening the organisation's culture.
- An honest and trustworthy professional, capable of delivering difficult messages during times of change.
- Can quickly identify threats or opportunities and develop strategies to mitigate or capitalise on these.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with ability to multi-task, prioritise responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to influence and mentor at all levels and develop partnering relationships.
