The new role:
We are currently looking for an experienced Underground Backfill Engineer to join our dynamic team. This position involves overseeing daily backfilling operations, developing backfill design plans, and implementing efficient pastefill procedures with a strong emphasis on safety.
Location: Prominent Hill , South Australia (60-minute flight from Adelaide / 30-minute flight from Port Augusta)
Roster: 8 days on; 6 days off (open to a flexible equivalent)

How you will create impact:
The key responsibilities are:
- Operational Planning: Develop and implement operational plans for paste filling activities, considering factors such as stope sequencing, paste plant capacity, material properties, and mine scheduling.
- Paste Performance Optimisation: Continuously evaluate and optimise paste performance, including factors such as strength, rheology, and settling characteristics, to achieve the desired fill properties and maximize operational efficiency.
- Risk Management: Identify and assess potential risks associated with paste filling operations, such as segregation, piping, and ground stability issues, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks effectively.
- Process Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement in paste filling operations, including equipment, materials, procedures, and quality control measures, to enhance overall productivity, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate on and Communicate on: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including geotechnical engineers, mine planners, and production personnel, to ensure smooth integration of paste filling activities with overall mine operations. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates, address concerns, and coordinate activities.
- Quality Control: Establish quality control protocols and perform regular monitoring and testing of paste properties to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of paste filling activities, including production data, quality test results, and operational parameters. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate progress, challenges, and recommendations to management.
- Health and Safety: Uphold strict adherence to health and safety regulations and promote a culture of safety consciousness among team members. Identify and address potential hazards and take necessary actions to mitigate risks.
What you will need to succeed:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in paste filling operations, demonstrating extensive field understanding.
- Proven expertise in optimizing paste performance and implementing effective risk management strategies, achieving exceptional results.
- Proficiency in utilising Deswik CAD so ware packages to streamline backfill engineering processes.
- Outstanding communication skills for seamless collaboration with stakeholders at various levels, ensuring clear exchange of ideas and information.
- Proactive problem-solving mindset, delivering high-quality results even in high-pressure situations.
