  • Safely Every Day — That’s Our Promise

About your new role

Keep freight moving in a role where your coordination, problem-solving and decision-making skills make a difference every day.

As a Resource Scheduling Specialist, you’ll join Pacific National — Australia’s largest private rail freight operator — as part of our Bulk team in North Sydney.

You’ll coordinate the daily allocation of crew and assets, working closely with operational teams to deliver safe, reliable and efficient rail services. With full training and ongoing support, you’ll build the knowledge and confidence to navigate a dynamic operational environment.

Why you’ll love this role

  • A varied role where you can see the impact of your work every day
  • Full training and ongoing support from an experienced team
  • Rotating lifestyle roster with 12-hour day and night shifts, typically following 4 on/5 off, 5 on/4 off and 5 on/5 off
  • Attractive employee benefits, including paid parental leave, novated leasing, Fitness Passport and a purchase leave program
  • Access to wellbeing support through Sonder
  • Supportive and collaborative work environment

What you will do

Prioritise safety in every moment — Safely Every Day.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you will:

  • Coordinate and allocate train crew, wagons and locomotives in line with daily operational plans
  • Maintain and update crew rosters, responding quickly to changing operational requirements
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure the right people and assets are in the right place at the right time
  • Monitor operations, identify potential disruptions and support practical solutions to keep freight moving
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve operational efficiency
  • Help ensure compliance with safety, operational and industrial requirements

What we’re looking for

You’re organised, adaptable and enjoy solving problems. You work well with others and can make sound decisions when priorities change.

You will bring:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Clear verbal, written and digital communication skills
  • The ability and willingness to learn operational systems and rostering tools
  • The ability to stay organised in a busy, time-critical environment
  • A collaborative and team-oriented approach
  • An interest in transport, logistics, rail operations or workforce planning
  • Ability to work a rotating roster comprising 12-hour day and night shifts
  • Previous exposure to labour planning, rostering systems or heavy industry is advantageous but not essential
