Workforce Coordinator – 12-Month Maximum Term Contract

  • 12-month maximum term contract based in North Sydney, working a rotating lifestyle roster
  • Full training provided
  • Safely Every Day — That’s Our Promise

Join Pacific National – Australia’s largest private rail freight operator

Every day, we transport millions of tonnes of critical freight around the country for our customers. We haul coal, intermodal containers, steel and bulk commodities that keep Australia moving.

An opportunity has become available for a Workforce Coordinator to join our Intermodal team in North Sydney on a 12-month maximum term contract.

What You’ll Do

Are you finishing school or early in your career and looking for an opportunity to break into the rail or logistics industry? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Workforce Coordinator to join our Intermodal team.

In this fast-paced role, you’ll help coordinate the daily allocation of crew and equipment across our national freight network, supporting the efficient movement of more than 500 train crew, 1,400 wagons and 130 locomotives.

You’ll play an important role in keeping freight moving safely and efficiently while developing valuable skills and industry knowledge. No previous rail experience is required, as full training and ongoing support will be provided.

Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, you will:

  • Coordinate and allocate more than 500 train crew, 1,400 wagons and 130 locomotives in line with daily operational plans.
  • Maintain and update crew rosters, responding promptly to changing operational requirements.
  • Work closely with internal teams to ensure the right people and assets are in the right place at the right time.
  • Monitor operations, identify potential disruptions and help implement practical solutions to keep freight moving.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Support compliance with safety, operational and industrial requirements.
  • Work a rotating lifestyle roster comprising 12-hour day and night shifts, following a typical rotation of 4 on/5 off, 5 on/4 off and 5 on/5 off.

What You’ll Bring

You don’t need previous rail industry experience. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude, a willingness to learn and an interest in building their skills in rail and logistics.

You will bring:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • Clear verbal, written and digital communication skills.
  • The ability and willingness to learn complex operational systems and rostering tools.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a busy, time-critical environment.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • An interest in transport, logistics, rail operations, workforce planning or monitoring-based work.
  • Previous exposure to labour planning, rostering systems or heavy industry will be advantageous but is not essential.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided. Bring your curiosity, enthusiasm and positive attitude, and we’ll help you build the skills you need to succeed.
